Back to IT Training

Re-joining the IT industry with ThoughtWorks

We don't want to accept that there are not enough women in IT. We want to do something about it. We also recognise that women who work as developers and then take a career break have tremendous value and ability that we want to help bring back into IT.

The industry moves so quickly that one year out can mean many new technologies. Coming back to work after a break can also be a daunting prospect. To help bridge this gap, we are offering an intensive training course, designed to give you the confidence and skills to join ThoughtWorks as a consultant.

The course is split in two parts - part 1 is 3rd-14th December 2007 and part 2 is 7th-18th January 2008. The course will be held in central London.

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about the course, but feel free to contact us if you have any others.

Should I apply?

  • If you are from a development background and want to update your skills, yes.
  • If you are looking for a new, challenging role in your technical career, and need a kick start to development, yes.
  • If you are not technically minded, or passionate about technology, then possibly not, but we would be interested to hear why you would like to take the course.

How much is it?

  • The course is free for delegates, but there are entry requirements (interviews & tests) to make sure that you are going to gain from the course and are suited to a career in development.
  • ThoughtWorks and Equalitec are fully committed to funding this training course. We would, however, require you to pay your own travel expenses into central London.

What will I learn?

  • You will learn or be refreshed on the basics of programming, some of the tools that software developers use and the team practices we use at ThoughtWorks to write software for our clients.
  • At the end of the course, subject to you successfully completing our recruitment process, you will have the opportunity to join ThoughtWorks.

How do I apply?

  • Please send us your CV, contact details and answers to these questions: why do you want to work at ThoughtWorks? What you want to get from this training?
  • We'll call you to discuss the next steps
  • If we agree to move forward, we need you to take our ability tests and meet some of our people for informal interviews
  • We'll also invite you to a social evening, to give you the chance to meet with other trainees and some of our existing employees.

While ThoughtWorks is eager to redress the gender imbalance in the IT industry by attracting women back to IT, we are an equal opportunity employer - if you are a male returner, we would love to hear from you too!
